In the latest indie sound effects roundup we look at the latest releases from various field recordists. Before we proceed, I would like to mention that Hiss and a Roar is having a sound design competition where you can win their new sound effects library Noise Source. Check it out here.
Since there are more and more releases each month I will split the roundup into various categories. Let’s start.
Ambiences and Soundscapes
High Desert Ambiences 2 by Thomas Rex Beverly
Sounds include doves cooing, woodpeckers hammering, White-throated Swifts in swirling flocks, and much more. Featured like never before are recordings of Swainson’s hawks carefully recorded so you can hear the whoosh as their powerful wings cut through the air.
The Horrid by Lukáš Tvrdoň
The Horrid delivers 4 dark ambient / industrial / horror compositions and their complete stem layers (22 files included – a total of more than 70 minutes of ambiences), for when you need to create a truly unsettling atmosphere.
Medieval Life by Boom Library
This collection has over 50 designed and ready-to-use medieval ambiences of life as a peasant, farmer, King’s guard, thief and more, all in stereo and 5.0 Surround. Also available is the ‘Medieval Life – Construction Kit’ that features sounds of farm animals, chopping wood, church bells, rattling chains, blacksmiths hammering, etc. to help bring your medieval or fantasy soundscapes to life!
Cityscapes And Streets by West Wolf
‘Cityscapes and street’ is a collection of different atmospheres, recorded in Sofia, Bulgaria. Inside you will find various cityscapes from hectic street traffic through city parks, subway stations, pedestrian zones to quiet morning urban sounds.
New Zealand – North Island Ambience by The Sound Keeper
Get the sounds of incredible New Zealand with this new library: I went down to New Zealand to visit a relative and record and experience the north island. It was an unforgettable trip. I rented a car, stayed on a farm, and explored as much as I could of the island.
Bike Ride Adventures vol. 2 by Antisample
This is a pay what you want ambience library created by me. Around 40 minutes of ambient sounds ranging from city, rural to forests and a short clip a recording outside the shooting range.

Special
The Burning House Library by Pole Position Production
This library captures a wooden summer cottage burning down to the ground. It contains fire at various intensities and random debris as the house falls apart. A number of microphones were positioned around the house to cover the exteriors, and one microphone was inside the house to cover the early stages of the fire spreading inside. A few crackles, sparks, and debris are also included as sweeteners.
Basement Corridor by Original Sounds
BASEMENT CORRIDOR is a collection in 5.1 SURROUND (and stereo too) of 21 high quality recorded roomtoones, ambiences and SFX sounds from underground locations.
Complete Amusement Park Sound Effects Bundle by Effect Sense
The Complete Amusement Park Sound Effects Bundle includes two sound libraries featuring various amusement rides, roller coaster pass bys with and without screaming, amusement park ambiences, and more.
Most sounds were recorded with LCR (Left, Center, Right) microphone setup with a tracking handheld mono shotgun microphone. Stereo downmixes are included for extra convenience.
Ambisonic Surround Crowds by 2496 Sound Effects
Ambisonic Surround Crowds features 60 HD 24bit/96khz Surround Sound Effects with a large selection of crowds from Conventions, Museums, Markets, Playgrounds, Parks, Carnivals, Casinos, Restaurants and more. Both Exterior and Interior.
Cars, whooshes and mechanical sounds
Dacia 1310 by Mindful Audio
4-channel recording of an old Dacia 1310 driving in the city and on motorway, recorded with 2 DPA 4061 mics (one on the engine and the other on the exhaust) plus a Sony PCM D100 in the boot. These sounds can be used to portray this specific model, but also as sound design material for old carburetor engine vehicles or rickety rattletraps.
Robotics Lab by hzandbits
This library gives you recordings of two different ABB industrial robots; the large IRB 6620 and the smaller IRB 120. You get both single, isolated movements and more complex sequences with the robots moving on multiple axes simultaneously. Also included are takes of the robots idling, with some subtle but interesting sounds as the result.
Tiny Transitions by Soundbits
‘Tiny Transitions’ deivers 275 short Whooshes and other Transition sounds. Instead of the huge, more cinematic transitional sounds that you are accustomed to hear from SoundBits, this sound pack focuses more on the smaller, not-so-intrusive production elements that come in very handy for any Sound Designer, All-In-One Film Editor or Web-, App- and Game-Developers.
Old Stuff by GainWalkers
OLD STUFF is a collection of old and worn sounds that will help you define the mood of a scene or can be used for any kind of sound design process. The library includes hums, buzzes, whirs, creaks, squeals from many different sources: doorknobs, doors, elevators, fridges, freezers, speakers, toilets, fans, and heaters. A peculiar garage soundscape is also included. Most of the sounds included are used on a daily basis.
