December and January started strong with these interesting SFX libraries. Check out our indie roundup picks for January.

The Drip by SonicSalute

The Drip delivers a comprehensive set of dripping sound effects that could be used in movies, video games etc. with both ambience sounds for backgrounds, and single sounds for spotting individual drops on various surfaces.

Antique Grinders by The Soundcatcher

13 different coffee and herbal grinders. These small wooden and metal devices give grainy textures to any material + they sound really funny at times, and can be used as sweetener for funny toy sounds. Due to the recordings with a piezzo disc, they have a lot of deep and rumbling content. The other mics were the Neumann TLM 102, The DPA 4060 and the amazing Sennheiser MKH 8040.

Fringe Elements by The Coil

Fringe Elements is an aggressive sample pack of divergent and destructive sounds designed for musicians and sound designers in need of a hard-hitting sound pallet on the periphery of normal. Each sound was built in the modular world and heavily processed through DSP algorithms to create structurally unique outcomes and ultimately highly usable samples.

Just Whoosh 3 by Soundbits

Just Whoosh 3 – Whoosh Essentials gets you 575 recorded whoosh sound effects. Some of the props used include: Cloth blankets, jeans, leather and nylon jackets, fishing rods, boom poles, bamboo/wood/metal/plastic sticks + ropes with things like spatulas attached to one end (!), chains, a torch, and some cars passing by.

Cybernetic Weapons by Epic Stock Media

Cybernetic Weapons brings forth a new era of hyper-sonic weaponry. With over 1,200+ custom designed and source sounds, this library comes packed with Cybernetic fire power. Perfect for games, video, film, TV, it’s all in 96k/24bit format so you can probably end the arms race right here and now.

A total of 29 different actions are included – isolated and recorded in a studio environment. Every sound has at least two different microphone angles available from the following options: Close (mono), SemiClose (mono), MidDistant (mono), Distant (stereo).

Storm Lake HD Pro by The Recordist

Recorded over a two day period, Storm Lake HD Professional Sound Effects Library showcases a very windy storm front that passed over the region in October 2015. With a steady wind speed of 25MPH and gusts to 45MPH this weather event from the North stirred the lake and curled the waves in such a consistent way I could not resist recording it.

Animal Farm by Sound Ex Machina

This library is dedicated to popular farm animals, rural backgrounds and agricultural activities – all you need around farm life. It features 165 sounds in total, from 14 different species with multiple variations for each animal, 25 discreet rural backgrounds and 10 types of modern and traditional agricultural activities.

Urban Winds by Hzandbits

Urban Winds is 49 minutes / 1.33 GB of medium and high-wind sounds in 38 separate files – recorded in 24bit/96kHz M/S stereo (decoded to X/Y stereo and mono), using Sennheiser MKH micophones.

Distant City Ambiences by Detunized

Distant City Ambiences introduces the sounds of the ever-present noisefloor that is generated by the life in a modern city.

Several spots around the hills along Dresden/Germany have been visited in order to record these noisefloors from a distance.

All recordings are made with a 3-channel setup of Sennheiser MKH8020 / 8040 microphones that are able to capture the finest nuances which are often hidden by an aggressive compound of ever roaring engines, passing airplanes, trains and other acoustic emissions.
